THE ETHIOPIAN REGION OF SOMALI

This region occupies a vast area of Southern Ethiopia and is populated by over 4 million inhabitants, the majority of whom are of Somali origin. They form communities which are mainly dedicated to sheep farming, an activity which in itself is not particularly profitable in a backwards area like the Horn of Africa which, furthermore, is regularly hit by famines.

The current emergency is a result of various factors: this year there has been a complete absence of precipitation in this area.
