SALESIANS IN THAILAND

Together with Don Bosco missionaries to help the Thai people

Since 1927 the Salesian missionaries have left their mark of solidarity in Thailand.
The missionaries target assistance to the poor and socially excluded in 17 Don Bosco missions all over the country, particularly in the south.
From Bangkok to Suratthani, to the mission in Yala, close to the border with Malaysia, the work of the missionaries has produced fruitful results over the years.   There are several elementary, middle, university prep schools, as well as professional and technical courses, youth centres….there is a significant operation dedicated to helping lepers in Ronphiboon and a professional training centre for the blind in Pakkred, close to Bangkok.  In the city of Bangkok, capital of Thailand, the Salesians are very close to the youth, and a very important part of their work involves assisting youth living in shanties.
The 80 Don Bosco missionaries in the country are continually working intensely to help children and youth.  Every day they see the difficult living conditions and the heart-breaking reality of child workers and the abuse of minors that involves neighbouring Cambodia in the movement of children and youth for their exploitation.
In the hostels for the homeless and educational centres built by the salesians, assistance is offered to all children who have been victims of abuse and violence, who have lost their childhood and carry out hard work, mistreated and alone in their suffering. The Don Bosco Fathers bring fatherly love to these young lives, seeking to reintegrate them in the community and daily life with patience and love, providing as well the opportunity to receive an education and formal training, so they can face the external world that awaits with new resources and hopes for a better future!
There is a lot to be done and the missionaries are not discouraged by the high number of child workers, ascertained at 5,000,000, in Thailand, but they roll up their sleeves and offer all possible assistance in every case in which they succeed in lending assistance.
Trusting in Don Bosco who brought his charisma and love to little ones and youth throughout the world, the salesians continue on this path of solidarity.  Let’s support their work since they need us as well in order to carry out new works and continue the initiatives already underway: with us at their side they will feel stronger.
